The music elevates as superman flies higher, perfectly matching the moment.
No 3: Big Hero 6 First Flight
After striving a lot, Hiro turns the cute and cuddly Baymax (your personal healthcare companion) into a cute but not cuddly fighting machine. We see him testing Baymax’s suit when Baymax turns on the jetpack and thrusts himself through the lawn. Hiro tries his best to control what seems like an out-of-control Baymax and manages to land him on top of a sea link bridge. He takes a breath of relief but it’s not over yet. Baymax stumbles and falls into the sea. Hiro screams as he should but what happens next is beyond anyone’s expectation. Baymax was in control all the time. When he is just a few meters from hitting the sea, Baymax turns on his jetpack and thrusts towards the city. What ensues is a joy ride of incredible visuals of San Fransokyo and the beautiful amalgamation of instrumental and electronic music by the genius Henry Jackman.
No 2: How To Train Your Dragon Test Drive
Hiccup replaces the broken fin of toothless and takes him for a test drive. They stumble at the start, crash into some rocks but manage to fly at the end. The scene is accompanied by an emotional score by the master John Powell. It’s a combination of Hiccup’s and Nightfury’s theme and that is what makes it excellent. It expresses the emotional connection between Hiccup and Toothless. Many wished of having a pet dragon of their own. The trilogy has multiple flying scenes where we witness the beautiful animations and see Berk in all its glory.
No Uno: Superman
Superman is the first film that fueled our dreams of flying. It’s hard to choose any scene in particular from the film. What set this film apart from other superhero films of the time was its extraordinary visuals. It captured the speed, the intensity and the beauty of flying. Superman’s symbol stands for hope and this film made people hope that one day even they can be superman. The greatest composer John Williams made what is probably the best superhero theme. The image of Superman flying instantly flashes in our minds when we listen to it. It’s like the theme itself says the word “superman”. Fun fact: It took a hundred piece orchestra to make that score.
So these are the best flying scenes in movies. Are there some you would like to add? Let me know in the comments.
